Pub group reflect on their journey to community ownership

The Scottish Community Pubs partnership is a programme of support delivered by the Plunkett Foundation and Democratic Finance Scotland (funded by the Scottish Government’s Scottish Rural Network Unit) for communities in Scotland looking to take their local pub into community ownership.

The Red Lion Inn in Culross was supported by the partnership when they undertook a community share offer in Summer 2021 to raise funds to purchase their local pub, which was at risk of being sold to a private investor. Following a successful engagement campaign, they raised £100,000 from over 400 investors and together with other funding, were able to take the pub on.

Since then the pub has gone from strength to strength. So in 2024, together with the Plunkett Foundation, we commissioned a video case study of the pub group to hear their reflections on their journey community ownership, the support they received and the difference it is making in the community today.
